The Subdivision and Housing Developers Association Inc. (SHDA), in partnership with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), brings back the National Developers Convention in person on October 5 to 6, 2022, to address current issues and discuss solutions in the Philippine housing industry in line with the Marcos administration’s key economic agenda.

The theme of this year’s convention is “Change-proofing the Industry: Building Homes for Filipinos, Today and Tomorrow.”

The two-day event at the Grand Hyatt Manila, BGC, Taguig City, will also tackle the digital era’s impact to resolve the emerging challenges amid the pandemic and global economic crisis.

The current administration has vowed to prioritize the country’s housing backlog through participative and inclusive plans involving private developers and financial institutions.

A platform to tackle housing industry’s pressing matters

SHDA President May Rodriguez said the event is an “avenue” for housing industry players. “The event will provide an avenue for them to meet and discuss future partnerships that can help us build more affordable housing for Filipinos through policy reforms and dialogues,” she added.

SHDA Chairman George Siy also added that the National Developers Convention 2022 is a platform for the government, private sector developers, suppliers, housing industry professionals, and stakeholders to gather and “identify strategies and solutions to address the challenges that beset the housing industry.”

Public and private top officials as guests for this year’s convention

Housing Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar is the keynote speaker of this year’s convention. Acuzar is a supporter of SHDA’s advocacies.

“The housing sector in the country needs aggressive efforts. Therefore, we have to involve every stakeholder that can take part in this advocacy of the new administration – that is to provide shelter to millions of Filipinos,” Acuzar said.

Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement Chairman Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito, House Committee on Housing and Urban Development Chairman Rep. Jose Francisco B. Benitez, and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan will also be at the event.

Urban development as key topic

On the first day of the National Developers Convention, guest speakers will highlight and discuss topics like urban planning and development initiatives, legislative initiatives on housing and urban development, sustainable housing financing, and the private sector’s success stories in housing and urban development programs.

Chairman and Co-Founder of 8990 Holding Inc. Mariano Martinez, Pag-IBIG CEO Acmad Rizaldi Moti, President and CEO of BDO Unibank Nestor Tan, Chairman of I-Remit Inc. Bansan Choa, President of Damosa Land Ricardo Lagdameo, President and CEO of Century Properties Group Jose Marco Antonio, and PRO-FRIENDS Co-Founder Guillermo Choa are among the notable speakers that will share their insights on the first day of the convention.

Opening the discussion on regional housing development

Meanwhile, regional development and local government units’ processes, innovation for housing through technology, incentives and smart subdivisions, public utilities in housing development, and public housing and subsidies are among the topics for the second day of the event.

Some of the guest speakers on October 6 are Bacolod City Mayor and Chairman of League of Cities of the Philippines Alfredo Benitez, President and CEO of Meralco Ray Espinosa, Vice President of PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. Romeo Sabater, General Manager of National Housing Authority Joeben Tai, and President and CEO of PhilGuarantee Alberto Pascual.

The National Developers Convention held its first-ever virtual edition of the event last 2021, boasting a record of 7,000 online participants from October 28 to November 5 with the theme “Beyond the Pandemic: The Future of Housing–Redesigning the Housing Industry through Innovation and Green Initiatives.” The 7-day event yielded the concept of the Smart Subdivision, which is now a new category in the Board of Investment’s Special Investment Priorities Plan.

Established in 1970, SHDA has over 50 years of close ties with its members, government agencies and allied professionals, and is the leading voice in articulating the advocacy of the housing industry in the Philippines.
